Development timeline
This page provides a timeline of key events in the development of Tonstad DataPark, from the public announcement of the zoning process in 2018, through municipal zoning decisions, the facility licence granted by the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE), and GreenScale’s acquisition of Tonstad Data Park in 2025. The timeline highlights major milestones including zoning decisions, regulatory approvals, community town hall meetings, the start of site works in 2026, and anticipated development phases leading toward the first operational building and full campus completion.

Zoning process announced
The commencement of the detailed zoning process for the Ertsmyra Næringsområde is announced. The announcement refers to plans to establish a data centre within the planning area.
March2020
Industrial zoning approved
Sirdal municipality zones the land for industrial use.
August2020
Facility licence application
Tonstad DataPark applies for a facility licence.
February2021
Landowner consultation
NVE (Norges vassdrags- og energidirektorat) sends formal notice to potentially affected landowners regarding the facility license for Tonstad DataPark.

Consultation closes
The NVE consultation period closes.

Facility licence granted

Zoning update announced
